Welcome to Retro Joy Lab (“we”, “us”, “our”), operated at https://retrojoylab.com (the “Site”).

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Site. By visiting or using the Site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Who We Are

Retro Joy Lab is an independent editorial website about retro video games and classic hardware. We publish articles, comparisons, guides, and personal commentary for collectors, players, and enthusiasts.

The Site is operated by an individual publisher. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Nintendo, Sega, Sony, NEC, SNK, Krikzz, Anbernic, Retroid, or any other hardware or software company mentioned in our articles.

2. Eligibility

The Site is intended for a general audience. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Site. If you are under 18, you should use the Site only with a parent or guardian’s permission.

Some content discusses technical hardware, third-party accessories, and collector topics. That information is for educational purposes and does not replace your own research before you buy, modify, or repair equipment.

3. The Content on This Site

Articles on Retro Joy Lab are written to explain hardware differences, historical context, and practical collecting or play questions.

Unless we say otherwise:

  • Content is provided for information and entertainment only.
  • Product mentions, price examples, and availability can change without notice.
  • Technical observations are based on publicly available information, community documentation, and hands-on testing where noted. They may not apply to every revision, region, or clone.

We may update, correct, expand, or remove articles at any time.

4. No ROMs, No Piracy, No Warez

Retro Joy Lab does not host, sell, or distribute copyrighted game ROMs, BIOS files, ISO images, or cracked software.

References to flash carts, EverDrive-class devices, FPGA hardware, emulators, or handhelds are for hardware discussion and compatibility context. They are not an invitation to download or share copyrighted games you do not own.

You are responsible for complying with copyright law in your country. Do not ask us to provide ROMs or links to ROM sites. Those requests will be ignored.

5. Intellectual Property

Unless otherwise noted, the text, original images, diagrams, page design, and compilation of content on the Site are owned by Retro Joy Lab or used with permission. You may:

  • Read and share links to our articles
  • Quote short excerpts with clear credit and a link back to the original page

You may not:

  • Copy entire articles
  • Republish our content on another website, newsletter, app, or social account as if it were your own
  • Scrape the Site for training data, bulk republication, or commercial reuse without written permission
  • Remove credits, titles, or source links from quoted material

Third-party names and trademarks

Game titles, console names, character names, logos, and product names mentioned on the Site belong to their respective owners. They are used for identification and commentary. Retro Joy Lab does not claim any rights in those marks.

Reader submissions

If you email corrections, photos, or suggestions and we use them, you grant us a non-exclusive right to use that material on the Site, with or without credit, unless we agree otherwise in writing.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Site for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to break, overload, scrape, or interfere with the Site
  • Introduce malware, automated bots (except legitimate search engines), or scraping tools that harm the Site
  • Post or send spam, scams, or promotional messages through our contact email
  • Impersonate Retro Joy Lab or misrepresent an affiliation with us
  • Use our content to promote piracy, counterfeit goods sold as genuine, or deceptive listings

We may block access or ignore correspondence that violates these rules.

7. Advertising, Affiliates, and Third-Party Links

The Site may display advertisements, including ads served by Google AdSense or other networks.

Some articles may include affiliate links. If you buy something through an affiliate link, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. A commission never changes the underlying technical conclusion of an article.

The Site also links to third-party websites, shops, manuals, and videos. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, policies, prices, or products. Following a third-party link is at your own risk.

8. No Warranty

The Site and all content are provided “as is” and “as available.”

We do not warrant that:

  • Every technical detail is complete, current, or error-free
  • A recommended adapter, flash cart, PSU, cable, or display will work with your specific console revision
  • Clone hardware or marketplace listings match the photos or claims in a seller’s page
  • The Site will always be available, secure, or free of bugs

Hardware modification, recapping, region conversion, and power-supply experiments can damage equipment or create a safety risk. Do that work only if you understand the risk. Retro Joy Lab is not responsible for damaged consoles, lost save data, fire, injury, or failed purchases.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Retro Joy Lab and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, or hardware, arising from:

  • Your use of the Site
  • Reliance on any article, comparison, or recommendation
  • Third-party ads, links, products, or services
  • Site downtime or errors

If a jurisdiction does not allow certain limitations, those limitations apply only to the extent permitted.

10. Corrections and Takedown Requests

We care about accuracy. If you believe an article contains a factual error, email skyhansu@naver.com with the page URL and the correction.

If you are a rights holder and believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice that includes:

  • A description of the work
  • The exact URL on retrojoylab.com
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from the Site or these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the Republic of Korea, unless applicable consumer law in your country requires otherwise.
